We are raising $100,000 in capital to support youth subsidy, equipment, transportation to rural communities and staff retention in the Comox Valley. We also host an online Community of Support called Earth Guides with free or affordable support or training. Your funds are helping youth and their workers in mental health and more.
At Wild Craft Play, we are answering an urgent call to action. Young people today are facing unprecedented challenges—addiction to screens, disconnection from nature, and rising mental health struggles, exacerbated by the effects of COVID. We see these struggles daily in the Comox Valley and neighboring communities, where the need for professional behavior support is growing. With proof in local strategic planning meetings with Child & Youth Matters, we are here to help.

Our solutions? Transformative, therapeutic play in Nature. This builds resilience, confidence, and agency for players and viewers.
Through playful storytelling, young people step into characters larger than life, discovering their inner strength and practicing essential life skills to overcome adversity. These immersive experiences empower them to face real-life challenges with courage and creativity.
Our work goes beyond the individual. Wild Craft Play weaves community and environmental stewardship into its stories. Whether embarking on quests or participating in ocean cleanup projects, participants find healing by playing, helping others and caring for the Earth.
This is powerful work: tending to the world in a creative and playful way mends the soul.

About the Need
This work isn’t just about supervision—it’s about transforming lives, fostering resilience, and building connections with the natural world. People need safe transportation, outdoor gear, alternative forms of education, online support and a sense of community.
People need
- safe transportation
- outdoor gear
- alternative forms of education
- online support and a sense of community
We need
- A Roof Rack & Pod (we tote around a lot of stuff!)
- Printing of resources for participants
- Space to hold gear – warm and dry
- A community of confidential support – where we can brainstorm solutions for struggling youth and families – WE created A Community of Behavior Support space on Earth Guides, now let’s get together and make time to find solutions.
- High Quality and Long Lasting Outdoor Gear – hand outs are welcome, only accepting what is needed at this time.
- A good functioning vehicle for trips up to Mt Washington (we have one now, and funds go to help maintain it)
- To pay Behavior Support Workers what they deserve with the rising costs of living
- A new laptop (our 10 year old laptop is meeting it’s end, and it is used for all of the video editing, marketing and planning)
Your donation will directly support over 50 active members of our Earth Guides online Community of Support right now. It can help one of the youth who currently seek support with our Behavior Intervention and Support services.
With a background in social research, and a life long passion for helping youth regenerate resilience, we are always researching and developing new activities, games, practices and now a community of support to help boost young people, and their workers.
- Your contributions help sustain the Earth Guides App, an accessible online community where outdoor workers can find vital support, training, and resources. This platform ensures that anyone, anywhere, can connect, learn, and grow—whether they’re in the woods or planning their next program.
- Within 1 year, we have over 85 people from across the Pacific North West, and are growing, currently supporting 87 members and growing (we do not turn anyone away for lack of funds, and over 70% of people here are only able to access our free resources).
- What if they could access everything with your support?
- Visit Earth Guides Free. You are required to create a login.
We believe Behavioral Support Workers deserve to be valued and compensated fairly—especially those with the skills and dedication to take children outdoors. Despite the challenges in this industry, we are committed to offsetting costs and paying workers what they’re truly worth.
- Compensation: Depending on their expertise, we pay $30–$45 per hour and aim to increase this as funding allows.
- Affordable Support: We provide 1-to-1 Behavior Intervention for youth with Autism and varying needs, offering safe transportation and outdoor adventures like cross-country skiing at Mt. Washington, hiking, biking, and exploring local beaches, lakes, rivers, and forests.
- Industry Advocacy: The cost of living, insurance, and the immense responsibility required are often undervalued in this field. Your support helps bridge this gap.
We are actively seeking skilled Behavioral Support Workers to address the growing needs in our community. Through training, mentorship, and a supportive network, we empower them to thrive in this essential work.
