One-to-One In-Person / Group Sessions
Transforming social, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing through a spiritual connection with Nature, Art, Music and Soul.
It is an honor and privilege to live, work and play on the K’ómoks First Nation Unceded Traditional Territory.
Currently Offering:
One-to-One Sessions (1.5 hr)
This is generally offered in your home. (My place may or may not be available).
The venue we choose will need access to a bathroom, space where our noises aren’t heard and other noises won’t bother us.
Maybe a cup of tea will help us get settled, then we can check in and begin.
“Jamie is obviously experienced and knows how to hold sacred space. She says it comes through like a hollow bone, and it shows. I am so grateful to have these experiences led so well by Jamie! Thank you!” ~ Anonymous 2023

About Group Sessions (4 hours with up to 8 ppl)
Held at a place in the Comox Valley where we come together in community with a cup of tea, get settled, check in and begin. Allowing space for more people to share can deepen our own unspoken truths.
~
“I find that I personally enjoy group sessions because I feel that in the listening, I feel like I’m not alone. In the sharing, I feel heard, and in the process, I feel connected.” Anonymous

In this Guided Drum Journey, you are invited to:
- prepare your space and leave the “real world” at the door
- bring your rattle or drum
- Bring items to put on the alter for cleansing (things that you will take home)
- Bring an offering for the Earth (biodegradable things you will leave with me to offer)
- Bring your own blankets/pillows as you need to feel comfy as you will be sitting for most of it, and if preferred lying down during the journey
- We will light a candle
- There will be herbs for self-Seining (you might recognize the indigenous term Smudge)
- ensure that you have the space and time to be alone
- Remove all distractions, turn off phones
- Bring art supplies and some kind of journal or paper
While you prepare all of this, you are already in sacred space. You are already in a spiritual ritual. Finding your sacred items, rushing to get there on time, placing the pillows and blankets, so make time. Slow down and enjoy the journey, your spiritual journey. It begins here and now when you commit to yourself to do this work.
“I thought I was imagining things in my first journey. When I went back again, I realized I was imagined, but that was the point. I need to let my self imagine again.” ~ Anonymous 2017
About Jamie Black aka HummingBard
I am a 3rd generation settler in Canada, descending from Scotland, Ireland and England. I was born in 100 Mile House, BC and at 3 weeks old moved to Errington, Vancouver Island, BC. I’ve lived on the island most of my life.
In 2006 I was trained privately in Qi Gong and Kung Fu by Alan Yin, a TCM and Martial Arts master. Then in 2010 I was trained for 13 months, then apprenticed for 13 months with Deborah Hollins in Druidic Shamanic Healing.
Time spent with Wes Gietz, Jean-Claude and everyone at the Art of Mentoring as a co-leader for 3 years, Hilary Leighton in a Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication for 5 years.
I took Narrative Therapy training at the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy to enhance the journey experience. As recommended by my mentor and friend Corinna Stevenson who has guided me through Vision Quest, private sessions since 2015 and now Year Long integration along side Julie Tallard Johnson. So much gratitude to these incredible people.
In a deep dive into my own spirituality, I found ease and grace holding circle for folx of all walks of life. I have hosted circle and one-to-one sessions for hundreds of people now and feel blessed to be in a position to offer this again.
Some of my most touching stories have been of folks who don’t think they can journey, or are nervous, who come out the other end in aw, struck by the wonderment and whelmed by the memories.
It’s an honor and a privelege to be a hollow bone, to hold space in this way, allowing you to deepen your healing journey and share in the experience with others. Let the drum, the experience and the people carry you deeper into your inner knowing. No drugs or influences of any kind involved… when I found this way, I knew I found my way!
I am committed to preventing cultural appropriation and ensuring that we do things that all participants feel comfortable with. I follow a Nature-based practice that I have cultivated over the years. If you were to pin me to some kind of “faith” I am practicing spirituality, and learning about Druidry, I was raised around indigenous teachings as well as foreign faiths. This practice is my own. Come, try it out once to see if it’s for you.
