Get out into Nature and what do I see?

Even I need to remember to get out into Nature.  A Nature Educator.

This morning I woke and reflected on my days passed, of what I learned, what I saw and what I remember.  I came to realize that I was graced with the presence of a beautiful Barred Owl zBarred Owland in the stillness of his gaze, he spoke to me.

Yet my mind was too busy to listen.  I saw this magnificent creature and was taken by surprise, in the middle of the day, this night creature graced my presense.  All that I recognized was that it launched from only a few feet away from me, and flew to a tree that was nearly 30 yards away.  It then stopped and pirched on a limb of a majestic old cedar tree, and stared at me for nearly a minute, long enough for me to take a picture.  Long enough to leave an imprint of inquiry, and visions in my dreams.

This morning I woke and wrote about my visions, my insights and my awareness, and Owl kept popping into my drawings, my words, and my thoughts, so I decided to look up Owl.  This is what I found:

The owl spirit animal is emblematic of a deep connection with wisdom and intuitive knowledge. If you have the owl as totem or power animal, you’re likely to have the ability to see what’s usually hidden to most. When the spirit of the animal guides you, you can see the true reality and see beyond illusion and deceit. The owl also offers for those who have it a personal totem the inspiration and guidance necessary to deeply explore the unknown and the magic of life. ~

I have always been in awe of the wisdom of Owl.  Just by watching Winnie the Pooh zowl and poohand the depiction of Owl character “Who who, what what?” and recognizing this is a quality that I have part of, and am diving deeper to explore what to do with that illusion and deceit.  What to do when people are not speaking their truth, how to hold them in their power, and inspire positive forward movement.

I am not sure where Elena Harris sources her material on her site, but I do resonate with the essense of the Owl in her words.

Owl Symbolism

Symbolic meanings for the owl are:

  • Intuition, ability to see what other do not see
  • The presence of the owl announces change
  • Capacity to see beyond deceit and masks
  • Wisdom
  • The traditional meaning of the owl spirit animal is the announcer of death, most likely symbolic like a life transition, change  ~ SpiritAnimal.com

This morning I looked in my Medicine Cards and took a deep breath while I read about Owl.  zowl medicine

Owl says it has a kinship with me, because it has shown itself to me in the day time and in my dreams. Is it any wonder that Owl, in many cultures, is a symbol of wisdom?  This is because owls can see that which others cannot, which is the essense of true wisdom. Where others are deceived, Owl sees and knows what is there.

Owl says that I may be a little freightening to be around, because I see people for “WHO” they are.  If I have owl energy, I may take my keen abilities and insights for granted.  I may frighten them and reflect their blindness, as I cannot be fooled.  Owl medicine people know more about an individual’s life than they know of themselves.

It is a blessing and a burden to have this awareness.  The blessing is in being able to truely see people.  The burden is having this awareness, and wanting to take the extra effort to communicate in a way that leaves others feeling empowered and positive about my interaction.  I find myself holding people as “able” to communicate and ask for what they need… and they are left feeling worse than without any interaction from me.

Forgive me ancestors, I feel like I am but a fledgeling, because I can see and am aware of what other people are really feeling and thinking whether they say it out loud or not, and yet I don’t know how to decipher and in tern communicate in a way that allows everyone to feel good.  Does anyone in the world have this answer, or is it all just circumstantial, and I have to do the best with what I have, and hope that they don’t take my interpretation and presentation personally.
